YVN Social Justice Statement

The Yale Veterans Network condemns the brutal and horrifying act of George Floyd being slowly choked to death on video, a spectacle that shocked the world and galvanized ongoing protests and talk of needed reform within police culture, as well as broader inquiries of what racism means in the United States as well as how to combat it.

In the Community: Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen

During this Covid-19 crisis, our leadership Co-Chairs Michael Radynski and Adrian Bonenberger have been guiding us to reappropriate our YVN budget to support vulnerable communities and businesses in New Haven. Seven of Yale’s affinity groups contributed funds to provide Koffee Katering sandwiches to the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen on April 14, which serves 130 people daily experiencing homelessness or living in poverty.

Annual Season of Giving Thanksgiving Fundraiser

Since 2016, the Yale Police Department (YPD) Turkey Giveaway has fed over 3,500 New Haven Residents. We have worked with the alders, the schools, and local non-profit groups within the City of New Haven to pinpoint elderly, disabled persons, and families that are truly in need during the holiday season. In the past, this event allowed Yale Police Officers and Yale University Volunteers to deliver turkeys and full meals directly to the doors of residents in need living within the City of New Haven.
