Saturday, April 13th was the 15th Annual AIDS Walk New Haven on the Green. AIDS Walk New Haven is a 5K walk to raise money to provide support services to individuals and families infected and affected by HIV/AIDS in the greater New Haven community. The goals are to raise money, increase public awareness, promote prevention through advocacy, and unite the Yale-New Haven community against stigma, apathy and infection. The $10K fundraising goal was exceeded by over $500! Yale University Affinity Groups came in first place, raising $1,603, with 75 participants.

Incentivizing Yale Veterans: Challenge Coins

A challenge coin is a small coin or medallion, bearing an organization’s insignia or emblem and carried by the organization’s members. Traditionally, they are given to prove membership when challenged and to enhance morale. In addition, they are also collected by service members. In practice, challenge coins are normally presented by unit commanders in recognition of special achievement by a member of the unit. They are also exchanged in recognition of visits to an organization.

Liaison's Ledger: In The Service

How many times are we asked, “Were you in the service?”  It resonated on multiple levels in May when the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA) sponsored its 10th annual “Yale Day of Service.” For the past seven years, led by the Yale Veterans Association (YVA) and Henry Kwan of the AYA, Yale alumni and friends have gathered at the West Haven Veterans Administration Hospital to serve veterans at the Eastern Blind Rehabilitation Center.

*Reminder to Apply* VIC: Veteran ID Card

As of November of 2017, Veterans have been able to apply for a card that proves their service if they were honorably discharged. Anyone interested in obtaining such a card can begin the application process by going to VETS.GOV.  In the search box enter VIC card and you will arrive at the proper screen.
