BOYS & GIRLS CLUB ‘FIRST LIGHT PROJECT’ SEEKING VETERAN MENTORS
Mary C. Rich Clubhouse Address: 347 Stillwater Avenue Stamford, CT
First Light Project is a new and innovative violence prevention program that launched in the Fall of 2016 out of the Boys & Girls Club in Stamford. This 10-week mentoring program pairs combat veterans with at-risk youth to have a shared dialogue built on mutual understanding of trauma and perseverance. The intention is to alleviate the gun violence in Stamford while also bridging the civil-military divide in our community.
The First Light Project is currently seeking post-9/11 and Gulf War veterans for our future cohorts. Meetings will be at the Mary C. Rich Clubhouse on Tuesdays from 6 – 8 pm with dinner provided. The volunteer positions are being filled quickly, so please apply as soon as possible.
We will be accepting applications on a rolling basis.
We are also open to further media interviews regarding the First Light Program, gun violence prevention in Stamford, or veteran reintegration with the local community.
