What is your current role at Yale University?

My current role is Community Engagement Project Manager at the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation, Yale School of Medicine. During my tenure at Yale, my responsibilities have included but not limited to planning, coordination, development, and regulatory and data support for multiple clinical and community-based participatory research and evaluation projects.

How did you begin your career?

I began my career at Yale University as a Research Assistant in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health.

What steps would you recommend one take to prepare to enter this field?

The steps I would recommend in preparation to enter this field would be to explore the vast and varied careers within research, and become involved through programs that allow introductory work in local, community, global, and policy issues.

What skills, abilities, and personal attributes are essential to success in your job/this field?

The skills, abilities, and personal attributes that I believe are most essential to this work are attentiveness and compassion.

If you could do it all over again, would you choose the same path for yourself? If not, what would you change?

If I could do it all over, I’d choose the same path. Yale University has afforded me a plethora of experience in operationalizing study design and data analysis of innovative projects. In addition, the relationships/friendships I have established over the years are invaluable.

What does YVN mean to you, and what are you hoping to accomplish as the first Co-Chair of YVN that is an ally?

It is a privilege to Co-Chair YVN with Shawn Flynn, and an honor to represent military families/military affiliation at Yale University. The work ahead provides a distinct opportunity to build upon the mission of YVN, and be innovative in providing awareness and support for the military families and military affiliated at Yale University. No words can easily demonstrate the true sacrifice of our military servicemen, servicewomen, and their families. I am grateful for this opportunity and thankful to my husband, SSG Hollis.
