Juneteenth New Haven 2022

Join The Descendants of the CT 29th Colored Regiment for their sixth annual Juneteenth event on Saturday, June 18th at the CT Violence Intervention Program, 230 Ashmun Street, from noon until 6:00 pm. The Harlem Renaissance is the inspiration of this year’s theme – Juneteenth New Haven! Revival of Cultural, Personal, and Social Wellness.

Finding Your Career Match

Join the Asian Network at Yale, Working Women’s Network, Yale African American Affinity Group, and Yale Veterans Network for an interactive workshop about finding your career match with Adrienne Lucas.

During this workshop, we will uncover your personal strengths, passions, and abilities and use them as a guide to ‘Finding Your Career Match.’ Over the course of 60 minutes, we will discuss questions to ask during job interviews, red and green flags to look out for during the hiring process, and the impact of ‘chasing the money’.

YVN Spring Clean Up

In Partnership with the City of New Haven, American Legion Post 210, VFW Post 12150, National Veterans Council for Legal Redress, and Yale Veterans Network, join us for a morning of community service at the Vietnam War Memorial. Materials will be provided by the New Haven Public Works Department. Please bring your work gloves, shovels, brooms, and gas or battery powered blowers or trimmers.

COVID guidelines will be followed and masks and social distancing will be required and adhered to.

Understand and Embrace Diversity

Exploring the many facets of diversity, this program examines cultural differences, as well as differences in age, gender, marital status, and sexual orientation. This session also explores the benefits of diversity in the workforce as well as effective ways to achieve a safe and equal workplace.

The Greater New Haven Heart Walk is back and ready to reinvigorate your heart-healthy lifestyle by uniting our community for better health, a fun experience and opportunity to help save lives.

This year, you can Heart Walk Here, there or anywhere! Choose our path or yours. We invite you to walk with our affinity group members at our in-person event on 5/7 at Savin Rock in West Haven, or wherever you feel inspired. No matter where you choose to walk, participating and donating to the Heart Walk will save lives and improve lives.

The Building Blocks of Consent: Title IX, The Law, and Children

Join the Yale Affinity Groups for an interactive workshop to explore the dynamics of consent in relation to healthy relationships, personal boundaries, and sexual misconduct. In addition, the history and application of Title IX laws and policies for K-12 and college students will be provided. Our presenter will be Freda Grant, a SHARE Advocate and Coordinator of Conduct Awareness Training and Prevention Education.

The Signs and Symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder

Join Yale’s Affinity Groups, Kelly Powell, Ph.D, and Kashala Smith-Tavaris, CCC-SLP, for a discussion on the signs and symptoms of autism spectrum disorder. Autism spectrum disorder is a condition related to brain development that impacts how a person perceives and socializes with others, causing social interaction and communication problems. The disorder also includes limited and repetitive patterns of behavior. The term “spectrum” in autism spectrum disorder refers to the wide range of symptoms and severity.

The Six Triple Eight Documentary Screening and Q&A

In February 1945, the Allied Forces were winning WWII and liberating the concentration camps. But the U.S. troops and their families weren’t getting their mail. Enter the only all-black Women’s Army Corps battalion to serve in Europe during WWII, the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion or Six Triple Eight. Despite facing racism and sexism from their own leadership and troops, the women served with honor, clearing 17 million backlogged letters. They were never fully recognized…until now.
