Veterans Day ceremony 2015

Yale saluted the soldiers who have served their country at a Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11. at Woolsey Hall. The event featured remarks by President Peter Salovey and Vice President Kimberly Goff-Crews and talks by two Yale community members who have served in the armed forces: Ashley Anderson, an Air Force veteran studying at Yale Law School; and Tom Opladen ‘66, a Navy veteran, who is co-founder and president of the Yale Veterans Association.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – As part of Heroes Day at Yale Bowl on Saturday, which resulted in a convincing 41-14 Bulldog win over Brown, the Yale Veterans Association was proudly represented by some of its heroic members.

The YVA, in partnership with the West Haven VA, brought a large group of blind veterans to the Yale football game in conjunction with the Heroes Day theme. The group sat in a reserved section with their volunteer escorts, who included Navy ROTC shipmen and Air Force ROTC cadets.

Military veterans-turned-journalists share tales of life in conflict zones

A tough question was asked of the panelists who took part in the Veterans Day discussion “From Rifles to Laptops: Combat Veterans Covering Conflicts”: Why — after seeing firsthand the horrors of war — would anyone want to risk his or her life to write about it?

Moderator Finbarr O’Reilly, an award-winning former Reuters reporter and photographer who has covered conflicts in Africa and Afghanistan, posed the question.

America's Parade (Veterans Day, New York City)

Join Irag and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) for one of their biggest events of the year! IAVA is going to grab a bunch of space on Metro North and ride down together to rep CT in NYC. IAVA will have passenger vans to get everyone to the train -- wherever you are, if you want to come to the parade, they'll get you there.

This event is open to all -- veterans, family, and anyone who wants to show their support. We hope to see you there!

Connecticut Veterans Day Parade

The largest Veterans parade in New England takes place in Hartford, CT on November 8, 2015.

Join Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) at the Parade. IAVA will be meeting up at an assembly area with coffee and bagels from Blue State Coffee, then marching in the parade. After the parade, IAVA will head to City Steam for free food and drinks to celebrate.

This event is open to all – veterans, family, and anyone who wants to show their support. We hope to see you there!

Heroes Day at the Yale Bowl

Join us for the Yale vs. Brown game. There will be a Yale Veteran tailgate tent in the Hospitality village for all to attend. The West Haven Blind Center will be bringing veterans to join for lunch at the tailgate and the game. Both ROTC Cadets and Midshipmen will assist the veterans with lunch and at the game.
